5 Reasons Why SEO is Important

“It’s unpredictable”

“It’s slow”

“Isn’t it quicker just to do Google Ads?”

I’ve heard them all, and they are all justified reasons why business owners and marketing teams may be back benching the old Search Engine Optimization activity till later in the year.

However, the reasons for SEO totally outweigh the negatives.

Here are 5 reasons why SEO is important:

  1. It’s easier than you think
  2. It’s a long-term marketing solution
  3. It’s incredibly cost-effective
  4. It’s not going away
  5. It’s intent marketing

1. SEO Is Easier Than You Think

Whilst there are more SEO tasks to carry out on your website than you can count on both hands, many of which are relatively simple and can be carried out with some training. Simply plan your SEO tasks into 4 main categories:

  1. Content – do you have a mix of multimedia? Is your blog SEO optimised
  2. Keywords – do you have an up-to-date keywords list for each landing page?
  3. Links – remember to start with internal links, which pages can link to which to help your customer convert?
  4. Technical – there are some great free tools out there to help identify errors and warnings on your website which could be holding your SEO back. I would recommend Ubersuggest by Neil Patel.

2. SEO Is a Long-term Marketing Solution

Once the changes are made and the errors are fixed, you have a high-quality website which lasts. Whilst you may need to keep pumping investment into your social media or Google advertisements, SEO will keep delivering website traffic over time.

Just be sure to keep yourself updated on any algorithm changes or changes in technology so that you can make those changes to your website as soon as possible.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy seeing your search traffic gradually increase over time… wait, you’re a business owner, there’s no time to relax. Sorry.

3. SEO Is Incredibly Cost-effective

This one kind of links up with number 2. Whilst time is money, you will never actually need to spend money on SEO. For a small business owner who is more time-rich than money-rich, SEO is the perfect opportunity.

With that being said, you can save a lot of time by getting a website audit done by a trusted SEO expert. (I never stated I wouldn’t be trying to be selling my services in this blog… leave me alone). Discover many other benefits of an SEO audit here.

4. It’s Not Going Away

I know, I miss my fax machine as well. They made such a charming grinding noise. They stopped being used because they were replaced by better technology.

However, SEO shows no sign of being replaced, in fact, SEO has a wonderful way of evolving to stay current. With advents like smart speakers and voice search, the amount of people using search has only increased to the point where now 93% of online experiences begin with a search. Let that sink in.

Just keep yourself up-to-date with the latest changes in search and you’ll be good to go. I am an SEO specialist, meaning I tend to spend around 40-50 hours in SEO every week so I am constantly staying on top of everything SEO. If you want bitesize updates delivered in a slightly sarcastic style, follow us on social media or sign up to my weekly newsletter.

5. SEO Is Intent Marketing

And what do I mean by intent marketing? It means that customers are already looking for and pursuing your product when they use a search engine. This sounds like a ‘duh’ statement but think about it…

Everytime you post a social media post or launch a social media advertising campaign you are trying to win customers over with that ad. You’re putting your product or service to them and going “you like?”. With search, its pure intent. Your only job is to design a website experience which tells the user that your option is the best option.

So decorate your landing pages with beautiful videos, USP’s and poignant product photography like my friends at Kokora have done. Then, your customer will choose you.
